The Office of Technology Management and the College of Law were pleased to announce the
first seminar in a new series on intellectual property.
This program provided a broad introduction to intellectual property law for academics.
The session covered the basic outlines of patent, copyright, and patent law and discussed the relationship between the intellectual property rights of instructors and researchers and those of the university, publishers, government, and other institutions that fund academic research.

Join us for this panel discussion which examines different perspectives on the licensing process. Panelists will include a local entrepreneur, an industry expert, and a University technology licensing manager. Each will discuss their views on the major considerations in a license negotiation and the expectations each side brings to the table. Topics will include licensing options, terms and milestones, the challenges faced by start-ups developing technology into products and what happens after the deal is signed.

Sustainable Bioenergy Initiative at UIUC
- The Office of Technology Management was proud to be a sponsor of the "Sustainable Bioenergy -- Focus on the future of biofuels and chemicals" workshop held in April. Over 80 participants representing academic and private sectors attended to listen to and challenge more than 30 presenters who introduced topics ranging from butanol as a second generation biofuel to identifying new co-products resulting from dry grind corn processing.

Innovation CelebrationThe Vice Chancellor for Research of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Champaign County Economic Development Council were pleased to sponsor the first-ever “Innovation Celebration” on December 8, 2005 in recognition of individuals and organizations that have taken risks, made significant contributions, and provided leadership to ensure the success of the University Research Park.
Eight awards were distributed, each recognizing a different way in which individuals and organizations have innovated and created—enriching the entrepreneurial spirit and economic development within the Champaign-Urbana-University community.
