Mark Kaczor

Mark joined the staff of the University of Illinois in 1990 as the Radiation Protection Manager at the Nuclear Reactor Laboratory in the University’s Department of Nuclear Engineering. In 1995 he received a Senior Reactor Operator’s license (SRO) from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) for the University’s Advanced TRIGA Nuclear Reactor. Mark still maintains his SRO license and performs limited duties at the reactor in support of maintenance in preparation for decommissioning. Mark has been a Technology Manager with the OTM since 2000.

Prior to joining the professional staff at Illinois, Mark worked for 13 years in the commercial nuclear power industry as a Senior Radiation Protection Technician at over 15 different nuclear power plants across the United States. His last employment in commercial nuclear power was as a Radiation Protection Supervisor and Licensing Administrator at the Clinton Power Station in Clinton, Illinois.

Mark holds a Bachelor’s Degree and a Juris Doctorate and is licensed to practice law in New York State.

Mark is the Senior Technology Manager with a focus on electronics, micro-nano manufacturing, materials science, and cleantech.

John McEntire

John has worked in technology transfer at UIUC since 1996. Prior to joining the OTM, John divided his time between Asia and the United States working as an international consultant in business development, licensing, sales, marketing, and public relations. John worked in Tokyo as a representative for Macrovision Corporation, Franklin Quest, Co., Michael Graves & Associates, Sam Sneed Design, Emc3 International, and more than 50 independent Hollywood film producers. He also worked closely with the business development divisions within several major Asian electronics manufacturers in the formation of joint development projects and licensing of products and services. Since 1999, John has periodically provided technology transfer consulting services to the Japanese Patent Office.

John received an MBA from the University of Illinois and a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University.

John is the Copyright, Software & Trademark Officer and a Senior Technology Manager with a focus on databases, data mining, digital content, visualization, supercomputing applications, and educational curriculum.

Eric Payne

Eric brings an extensive background of biotechnology and intellectual property expertise to the OTM. As a research fellow with the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention in Atlanta, Eric helped develop analytical methods for the detection of biological and chemical warfare agents. In addition, he has held several research positions in areas including molecular virology and plant genomics.

Before joining the OTM at the University of Illinois, Eric served as an Intellectual Property Analyst at Purdue University where he specialized in developing intellectual property protection strategies for early stage biotechnology and medical science inventions.

Mr. Payne is licensed to practice before the United States Patent & Trademark Office as a Patent Agent and holds dual degrees in Molecular Genetics and Microbiology from Purdue University.

Eric is the Technology Manager with a focus on pharmaceuticals & biotechnology, chemicals & bioenergy, nutritional sciences and agriculture.

Dave Washburn

Dave brings operational, business, and marketing management experience to the OTM, having previously served companies within the scientific software, programming tools, security, and web services sectors.

Previously, Dave was Senior Operations Analyst and Director of Worldwide Channel Sales for InstallShield Software Corporation. As the Manager of International Business Development for Wolfram Research, Inc., he oversaw sales, marketing and business development activity outside the United States. Dave also held sales and marketing positions for tools developer Kuck & Associates (now part of Intel) as well as the security firm Argus Systems Group, Inc. Dave started his career as an analyst with Information Resources in Chicago.

Just prior to joining the OTM, he provided consulting services to early stage start-up companies that had spun out of the university. Dave holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois.

Dave is the Senior Technology Manager with a focus on software engineering, web 2.0, graphics/visualization/HCI, scientific computing, trustworthy information systems, and security.

Steven Wille

Steven Wille worked in product development and manufacturing in chemical, medical and electronics companies for more than 28 years prior to joining the OTM. He is an inventor on seven patents and has authored several papers published in peer reviewed journals.

In Steven’s most recent prior position he was a section manager for hardware engineering at Siemens Medical Solutions, where he directed a staff of more than 50 engineers and managed several multinational projects. Steven has also held management positions with Motorola, Connor-Winfield, and Grayhill.

Steven is the Senior Technology Manager with a focus on bioimaging, semiconductors, processes, materials, and devices.
